West Wall Traverse

Scafell

Via Lord's Rake

Currently Lord's rake is in a mess and there is no real safe way through it.  See history and update.  West wall traverse leads off from Lord's Rake and is a relatively easy ascent which by-passes the toppling pillar.  To get to the start of west wall traverse still requires care as there are regular rock falls down Lord's rake. The most recent was 8 August and involved incident number 37

For those who have not ventured up West wall traverse you can climb it here in the comfort of your computer chair.

Just a reminder that it is still regarded as unsafe

The start of Lord's rake - 7th August - full of loose rocks from various rock falls over the last 3 years

Working up the Rake through the looses scree

Top of the rake - time to take great care not to dislodge anything

At the top you take a lower path which leads diagonaly out to the left.  The higher path where this person is standing is no longer a safe passage and is the area which is regularly collapsing

You carry on moving off to the left onto the steep ramp which leads you away from danger into the relatively safe environs of west wall traverse with exposed drops into Deep Gill on the left hand side of the path as you ascend.

Easy scrambling from here

Standing on the top plateau /saddle looking back down West Wall Traverse / Deep Gill - the Brown Tongue / Hollow Stones path can be seen at the very bottom
